We’ve been so programmed by marketing that unless we have an allergy we don’t read the ingredients on labels. We buy based on what the product promises to deliver. “ Soft and Silky Smooth Skin” will get you every time.
The popular brands, even some of the “all natural” and “organic brands” have very harmful chemicals in them. As your skin is the largest organ in your body these toxins are absorbed by your body and begin to spread to other organs wreaking havoc on your immune system.
Toxic ingredients to look out for
I also want to touch on the ingredient Lye. This is made from primarily from pig fat, but can also be made from the fat of another animal. This fat is absorbed by the skin and contaminates the body. Our body does not know how to breakdown this foreign fat. It clogs our pores causing breakouts, rashes and acne. It begins to settle in our blood stream clogging the arteries.
What to use?
Castile Soap, it is made entirely of essential oils. Castile comes in a variety of fragrances and has a mild formula for sensitive skin, which is also baby friendly. Before you buy castile soap research the company to ensure they are using the quality essential oils. You do not want to use a cheap brand that has a high alcohol base, as this too can be toxic and have an adverse effect on your body.
In my house we combine the castile soap with other ingredients to make it not only cleansing but also moisturizing. We use it as our hand soap and body wash.
1/3 cup olive oil
1/3 cup coconut oil
3/4 cup castile soap
This also works well with almond and avocado oil, but feel free to use any oil you like.
**do not use canola, vegetable or corn oil
In a bowl add castile soap and oils
Stir and mix well
Transfer to a pump or foam bottle
Store in bathroom
**as oils separate you may need to shake the bottle before each use
