As I began my fitness journey all the fitness gurus were saying I needed to up my protein. A quick google search and you will find meat, fish, dairy and nuts are the go to sources for protein. Needless to say I began eating more of these foods.
As I began to take my fitness and health more serious I learned that protein is a sales mimic, a marketing tactic to boost meat and dairy sales. NO ONE EVER DIED OF PROTIEN DEFICIENCY!! When I heard this I almost fell off my chair. Wow! I too fell victim to their marketing tactics and never even thought to research protein and its necessity to the body. I began to tell everyone they didn’t need protein shakes, they didn’t have to consume meat, and milk didn’t need to be drunk at every meal. My street cred was increased when a doctor from What the Health said the same thing.
Think about it, some of the most muscular animals from the animal kingdom are vegetarians. We have rhinos, gorillas, elephants, giraffes, even the cow is a grass eater. These animals are getting their protein from the leafy greens they eat!
We are getting protein from animals that are getting their protein from plants! So why are we eating animals instead of going directly to the plants?
No one likes second hand; they only take it because the original is no longer available or too expensive. So why are we getting second hand protein? Why are we settling for second best if the source is still around and cheaper?
Genesis 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
The animals follow this scripture and outlive us. Not only do they outlive us they also thrive. You never hear of a veterinarian going the jungle to heal an antelope who has cancer. Has a doctor ever gone to the rainforest to heal a panther that has diabetes? I just doesn’t happen. Vets were created to help domesticated animals, pets who have adapted to the human diet.
