Our emotions are always trying to come out of us. Even if you are not the “emotional” type your emotions are in a constant struggle as to which emotion will shine through. The movie Inside Out did a great job of showing us the need to control our emotions.
The way we act and react, affect our quality of life. If you are happy you will see the good and beauty in the world. You can easily roll with the punches and make the best of every situation. If you are unhappy you are more likely to get upset very easily and complain about everything. If something goes wrong, watch out! Hurricane negative emotion is about to unleash its wrath.
How to control your emotions
The definition of Control is the power to influence or direct people’s behavior or course of events.
The first step is to realize you have triggers. Everyone has triggers and they come in many different forms. It can be words, people, experiences, and visuals. Some people have more triggers than others; many of us seem to be caught off guard as they don’t recognize the trigger. Writing down every time you lose control of your emotions will allow you to recognize your trigger.
Once you know your triggers it is time to address them. Keep yourself out of situations or away from people that will trigger your negative emotion. If it cannot be avoided give yourself a quick pep talk, prepare yourself for the emotional battle that is about to take place.
It can seem that the more you try to control your emotions the more they are tested. This process can be very trying but stick with it. You are a work in progress and have the power to control the course of events in your life. Do not get discouraged.
